Join us January 1, 2027 for First Day Walk at Scissortail Park!
Welcome in the new year with a walk in the park
First Day Walk is a nationwide initiative to encourage people to get outdoors. The event is organized through Greater Oklahoma City Parks and Trails Foundation, National Park Service, Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation, Scissortail Park Foundation, Landrunners OKC, and Midtown Renaissance. The First Day Walk aims to inspire the community to enjoy the parks, trails, and public spaces available in the Greater Oklahoma City area. The event is open to everyone, including children of all ages and leashed dogs.
First Day Walk will take place on January 1, 2027, at Scissortail Park. The event will begin with a “Happy Noon Year” countdown at 12 p.m. at the Love’s Travel Stops Stage located on the northeast corner of the park. We encourage participants to wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers for the walk through Scissortail Park. Those who want to go the “extra mile” for their parks will have the option to walk across the Skydance Bridge into the lower portion of the park, which is a 2.3-mile loop and the perfect way to welcome in 2027!
Our 2026 event drew around 450 participants. With our partnering organizations, we are working to improve the quality of life through outdoor activities in Oklahoma City. The outdoors and nature play a crucial role in human health, inspiring our community to savor the natural beauty of our parks and public spaces.
