Join us January 1, 2025 for First Day Walk at Scissortail Park!

Welcome in the new year with a walk in the park

First Day Walk is a nationwide initiative meant to encourage people to get outdoors. The event was organized through Greater Oklahoma City Parks and Trails Foundation, National Park Service, Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation, Scissortail Park Foundation, OKC Running Club, St. Luke’s Wednesday Night Alive, Keep Moving OKC, Girls on the Run and REI Co-op. The goal of the First Day Walk is to inspire the community to enjoy the parks, trails, and public spaces available in the Greater Oklahoma City area. The event is open to everyone, including children of all ages and dogs. Dogs must be on a leash for the First Day Walk

In our first year, we had around 300 people join us for the event at Scissortail Park. With our partnering organizations, we are working to improve the quality of life through outdoor activities in Oklahoma City. The outdoors and nature play a crucial role in human health, while inspiring our community to savor the natural beauty of our parks and public spaces.

First Day Walk will take place on January 1, 2024 at Scissortail Park. The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the stage on the corner of the Oklahoma City Blvd and S Robinson “aka” Thunder Drive just east of Spark restaurant. Greater Oklahoma City Parks & Trails Foundation encourages people to wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers for the walk through Scissortail Park. Those who want to go the “extra mile” for their parks will have an option to walk through the recently opened lower portion of the park, which is a 2.3 mile loop and the perfect way to welcome in 2024!
