First Day Walk is a nationwide initiative meant to encourage people to get outdoors. The event was organized through Greater Oklahoma City Parks and Trails Foundation, National Park Service, Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation, Scissortail Park Foundation, OKC Running Club, St. Luke’s Wednesday Night Alive, Keep Moving OKC, Girls on the Run, and REI Co-op. The goal of the First Day Walk is to inspire the community to enjoy the parks, trails, and public spaces available in the Greater Oklahoma City area. The event is open to everyone, including children of all ages and dogs.

First Day Walk will take place on January 1, 2023 at Scissortail Park. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the stage on the northeast corner of Scissortail Park on Oklahoma City Boulevard between Hudson and Robinson. Greater Oklahoma City Parks & Trails Foundation encourages people to wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers for the walk through Scissortail Park. Those who want to go the “extra mile” for their parks will have an option to walk through the recently opened lower portion of the park.
